Last night we ran our first event – connective expertise. The event took place at Avenue HQ in Leeds, and we were joined by 40 delegates for an evening of thought leadership and networking.

Having launched just under two months ago, we were keen to showcase what we offer as an agency, to outline our unique proposition and to welcome local digital marketers to join us for a series of insightful talks, and some drinks on us.

Joining us for our four talks were speakers covering a variety of topics including Ecommerce, Paid Media, Digital PR and Content Marketing.

For those of you who couldn’t make it, or would like to find out what you missed, we’ve included an overview of the talks below.

Our first talk came from our Paid Media Director – Claire Stanley-Manock. With extensive paid media experience, Claire used her 20 minutes to run through the 15 things that you need to know in Paid Media in order to generate the most return from your paid spend. Her talk covered topics including generating revenue from display, supply chain management and outlined how our tech stack allows us to achieve efficiencies when implementing paid activity. Clare’s slides can be found here.

Following Claire was our Content Marketing Director – David White. Speaking on the topic of link building David ran through our Digital PR approach – Strategic Creativity. Created by our PR team to ensure we are able to deliver a consistent and varied link portfolio for our clients, without having to rely solely on large campaigns. To find out more about this you can download David’s slides here or read his blog on Strategic Creativity here.

Joining us from in-house was Kristal Ireland, Ecommerce Director at Harry Hall. Kristal’s talk outlined how equestrian retailer Harry Hall managed to diversify their service offering through their subscription service and built a loyal customer base as a result. It was a hugely interesting view into how an ecommerce brand is adapting their strategy within today’s challenging times for retailers.

Our final speaker was Sam Brown from Goal.com. As Managing Editor of the largest football site in the world, Sam gave us a view into the mind of a publisher. He outlined how their team approach content creation to keep their 80million monthly readership engaged with their brand. A highlight from this talk, and Sam’s core takeaway was to run all content through the aptly titled ‘Give a shit’ filter – simply put – if people aren’t going to care about the content then you shouldn’t be posting it!
